Definitions:
-"Gun Moll" (159)- a term that refers to the female companion of a male professional criminal. In some contexts, gun moll more specifically suggests that the woman handles a firearm.
-Cassava (150)- a woody shrub native to South America-- used for its edible starchy tuberous root, a major source of carbohydrates.

5. Reaction to Fard: disgusting pig.
-"Fard was like a god: present everywhere and visible nowhere" (150).
Desdemona thinks what he is doing is good. Desdemona was not allowed to hear him preach because she is white, hears through ventilation, only white person to ever hear him preach.
*extremely against white people-- For Original people
-Story of Yacub "He genetically changed the black man, one generation at a time, making him paler and weaker, diluting his righteousness and morality, turning him into the paths of evil" (155). "Yacub had create the white man! Born of lies, born of homicide, a race of blue-eyed devils!" (155). "White bones, anatomically spewing are more fragile, white blood is thinner, whites posses roughly one-third the physical strength of blacks" (156).

Fard = Zizmo!!! He is a selfish jerk! He left his family because his "only responsibility is to [his] people" (164). He doesn't care about anyone but himself. He does not even believe what he is preaching. When Robert Harris kills James J. Smith because Fard says "All Muslims will murder the devil because they know he is a snake and also if he be allows to live, he would sting someone else" (161)-- Fard admits"that the nation of Islam was nothing but a 'racket'. He had invented the prophecies and the cosmologies to 'get all the money he could' " (162). He makes up stories and idea, even leading one man to kill another, just to earn money. He does not care about anything but himself and money. I hate Zizmo. He has left his family and has basically mocked a group of people and their beliefs, also implanting horrible things into their heads.

3. Question: I was very confused on pages 157-159. I was confused on the point of view. Is this Cal talking? It is saying "I" but also talking about Lefty and Desdemona. I do not understand who is speaking. Cal is not alive at this point and the person is talking about going to some of the places and knowing why there was coldness passing through the house. I am confused by the wording and what the point of adding this to the writing is.

Random-
"I wish I had died in the fire! I swear to you! I wish I had died in Smyrna!" (156)- Desdemona plagued by sin- does not know how to handle it- sad.

Lefty's new business- Gross! He has become really gross as well. It seems like he no longer cares about Desdemona and is only concerned with business and making money. "My grandparents, once so inseparable, had drifted apart" (157). "Why did Lefty stop searching for his sister's face and start searching for others, blondes with thin lips, for gun molls with provocative rumps?"..."Or had guilt begun to infect him too, so that to distract himself from the thing he'd done he ended up with these Mabels and Lucieas and Doloreses" (159). Lefty has become completely changed by the move- he is completely Americanized. He has forgotten all of the values and morals which he has come from and does not care about his family. He does not treat Desdemona in the same way and turns to bad things in his life, liquor and new women.
